The artist created a “delicious” portrait of actress Zhang Ziyi

Young Ukrainian artist Pavel Bondar created an unusual portrait of the famous Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi from … sushi.

The portrait of a Chinese actress is part of Pavel’s original art project Tasty Faces. As part of the project, a self-taught artist creates portraits of famous people using a variety of products: coffee, chocolate, fruit, oatmeal, wine, etc.

“The idea to create portraits from food originated spontaneously. I wanted to express my inner feelings clearly. And I realized that food helps to do this, ”says Pavel in an interview for gbtimes.

The flight of imagination of a young artist from Dnepropetrovsk is really amazing. He created the portrait of Vincent Van Gogh from bread and tea, the image of the R’n’B diva Beyoncé – from chocolate, the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II – from oatmeal, and the portrait of the French singer Mylène Farmer Paul painted with red wine and grapes.

Zhang Ziyi Pavel’s portrait of a Chinese woman was inspired by her famous film Memoirs of a Geisha (2005), which is set in Japan. Hence the choice of material – sushi.

“The sushi portrait took several days to create. Rice, grain by grain, was laid out on a sheet and interacted with sesame seeds, seaweed, soy sauce … I wanted to convey the atmosphere corresponding to the Japanese table culture, ”explains the artist.
Pavel Bondar plans to continue bold art experiments, using various food products as consumables:

“I get incredible pleasure from the process of creating my portraits. I am in love with each of my heroes. “
