Zhang Ziyi loves sushi. Mutually!

Pavel Bondar, a popular portrait painter from Dnepropetrovsk, working in the original art-food technique and preparing his exposition in Moscow, depicted one of the leading Chinese actresses using seafood and traditional elements of the national cuisine.

Zhang Ziyi

… It is difficult to say what is more in the fate of Zhang Ziyi, who has been recognized by the leading Chinese media as one of the best actresses of the new generation. The film “The Way Home” (1999) by the cult Chinese director Zhang Yimou, which is well known to the Russian audience, brought her popularity. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000) brought her worldwide fame, and Rush Hour 2 (2001) established Ziyi as a Hollywood star. In her native China, 36-year-old Zhang Ziyi won 3 prestigious film awards: Golden Rooster, Golden Horse (Taiwanese Oscar) and One Hundred Flowers – all for Best Actress. In addition, the authoritative American magazine People twice included Zhang in the list of the 50 most beautiful people on the planet. However, such bright ups became not an obstacle, but rather a catalyst for all sorts of gossip, intrigue and intrigue … So, a colleague and also a popular Chinese actress Fan Bingbing in the spring of 2012 spread rumors about some piquant connections of Ziyi, and around which a noisy scandal erupted. The rival’s goal was clear: to thwart Zhang’s success at the Cannes Film Festival with her new film, Dangerous Liaisons, presented at the Film Forum. Due to the outbreak of hype and showdown, Ziyi could not even come to Cannes that year! But she was twice on the jury of this most prestigious international film festival. But the actress filed a lawsuit against the media, spreading defamatory information about her, and won! There was no conclusive evidence against her.

More than once she was charged with intimate relations with famous filmmakers. Among her “counterparts” were named director Zhang Yimou, known for his novels on the set, and even … Jackie Chan, who became a volunteer translator for Ziyi during the filming of the Hollywood film “Rush Hour-2” … However, none of these rumors also found “Official” confirmation. But, of course, it was not these vicissitudes and scandals that attracted in her image the original Dnepropetrovsk artist Pavel Bondar, who works in a peculiar manner of art-food. First of all, he was undoubtedly inspired by the irresistible appearance of the actress: she combines the ideal figure with the features of the “porcelain” oriental princess. As if a face painted with a thin brush and a gazing, open gaze of dark eyes … Beauty!

Pavel Bondar paints his canvases using famous food products as paints and artistic paraphernalia.
“The advantage of liquid food materials is that they are absorbed into paper and canvas,” the artist said in an exclusive interview with our correspondent. – Coffee and chocolate create a characteristic “dark void”, the wine is also absorbed into the fabric and retains its rich color.
The most important thing is that you like the person whose image appears in the picture, – Pavel Bondar continued. – I can create only in this state of “love”. In principle, I am a fan of realism and strive to convey the maximum resemblance to the “model”. At the same time, my very first and main “tool” is a simple pencil: almost any painting begins for me with a light sketch. The pencil gives confidence to the further process and moves not only the hand … ”

For the portrait of Zhang Ziyi, the artist used bright ingredients for sushi of various recipes – this dish, according to available information, is one of the actress’s culinary preferences. The multi-colored, festive picture is created mainly with seafood and traditional Chinese food ingredients. The delicate features of the face are drawn with soy sauce, and edible nori seaweed, red caviar, rice, ginger and delicious green oriental horseradish wasabi added volume to the image.

There are many other celebrities in Pavel Bondar’s portrait and culinary gallery. So, the artist used a shocking cocktail: a fleshy banana, juicy kiwi and ripe pomegranate combined with bright orange juice as material for the portrait of the odious singer and actress Lady Gaga, a star of modern electronic music. The heroine of pop and other shows on the verge of a foul, with her originality, inspired Pavel to another, completely new canvas. The theme of meat in the real fashion images of Lady Gaga prompted Pavel to use this product to create her second portrait (and the same exotic fruits are used as a garnish for the meat in the picture).

But the historical image of his colleague, Van Gogh, suggested to the artist minimalist means of expression: the portrait of the genius of post-impressionism was painted with the use of black bread and tea. The choice is clear: after all, for some time, as you know, Van Gogh lived in poverty, giving all of himself to art; it was not so important for him what was on his desk – it was important that he could draw tomorrow …

French singer, actress and poet Mylène Farmer added red wine and grapes to Bondar’s “food palette”. Well, the main “paint” for the embodiment of the image of the charming Beyoncé, pop diva, actress and model of African American descent, was dark chocolate.
After a while, the artist promises, he will open an exhibition of his “Delicious Portraits” in Moscow. How to preserve such deliciousness and beauty? For this, Pavel shared, he creates special conditions for paintings, thanks to which works of art are guaranteed a long life.
